Captivating Flounder Pursuit Under the Starry St. Augustine Skies
Action-packed day from the get-go! I took Taylor out with Hook-N-Gig Outfitters for an evening of flounder gigging in the waters around St. Augustine, FL. The weather was perfect, with clearing skies in the late afternoon as we headed out from the Vilano Boat Ramp.
With our gear rigged and ready, we worked the inshore flats and creeks with 3 prong gigs. The Southern flounder were really active, and we managed to land a few nice ones, including a 19-inch beauty. This area is a hotspot for flounder, and the techniques we used were spot-on for finding and catching these tasty flatfish.
We wrapped up the trip with a great time and smiles all around! Thrilling Flounder Forays Beneath the St. Augustine Starlight
What a night it was out on the water with Scott and his crew for our Flounder Gigging Trips In St Augustine over in Vilano. May is a prime time for this kind of inshore action, as the warmer weather and calmer seas make it perfect for spotting and gigging those tasty flatfish under the stars.
We met up at the Vilano Boat Ramp just as the sun was starting to dip below the horizon, got our gear loaded, and headed out. The water was in great shape, and the clear conditions stuck around all night, giving us ideal visibility to scan the shallows. As we drifted and stalked the flats, we started spotting some nice baitfish , leading us directly to the flatfish we were targeting.
But the real excitement came when we started zeroing in on the flounder. These fish really came alive as the last of the daylight faded, and we had a blast trying to sneak up on them and make the perfect stab with the gig. The crew was focused and dialed in, and we ended up putting some real nice flatties in the boat. Seeing those unique fish up close, with their camouflaged bodies and strange eyes, is always such a cool experience.
